The Berlin Center for the History of Knowledge

The Berlin universities and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) have intensified their cooperation in the history of knowledge over the past ten years. Their goal is to create a long-term base for this new field of research and teaching, and to establish a close network within the history of knowledge. Taking into account current research in the history of science and other humanities and natural sciences disciplines, the center of Berlin is envisioned as a cooperation for interdisciplinary dialogue.

In 2011 the Freie Universität (FU), Humboldt Universität (HU), Technische Universität (TU), and MPIWG began a cooperation to support and promote the discipline of the history of knowledge in Berlin. Since then, an organizational and content framework has been created that has led to a significant expansion in joint research activities. In addition, positions have been created that make Berlin itself an important location for the study of historical cultures of knowledge. Activities include colloquia, workshops for doctoral students, a postdoctoral program (2013–18), and the joint Berlin course catalog (the KVV, or Kommentiertes Vorlesungsverzeichnis). This website is intended to serve as an information platform for students and researchers in Berlin.
