This accessibility statement (as of June 2025) in accordance with EU Directive 2016/2102 and corresponding national legislation applies to the website of the Berliner Zentrum für Wissensgeschichte, operated by the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) and currently accessible at https://zwg.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/.
The MPIWG strives to design its website in compliance with the applicable accessibility regulations and is guided by the following legal provisions:
Disability Equality Act (BGG) and Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0)
This statement is based on a self-assessment carried out in June 2025 on the basis of the requirements specified in BITV 2.0.
The accessibility of the website is being continuously improved. The MPIWG is currently revising its website in order to remove existing barriers as quickly as possible.
Status of compliance with requirements
The website https://zwg.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/ currently has the following shortcomings:
Easy language
An explanation of the website in easy language is not available.
Sign language
An explanation of the website in sign language is not available.
Labels and instructions
The website contains some empty links and unlabeled buttons.
The form fields in the search function are not consistently labeled correctly.
Color contrast
Some text and navigation elements have insufficient contrast and are therefore difficult to recognize.
The active states of elements (e.g. mouse-over for text links) are sometimes only recognizable by color and have insufficient contrast.
Simple navigation
Some elements are displayed very small on mobile devices, making them difficult to navigate.
The sublevel of the main navigation cannot be accessed via keyboard control.
The order of the headings is sometimes incorrect. Many pieces of content contain empty or incorrectly labeled headings. Some headings are labeled that are not headings.
Support for screen readers
The reading and focus order, which is important for screen readers, is not always logical.
The ARIA IDs used are not unique. Labels and hidden help texts cannot therefore be clearly assigned and read aloud by screen readers.
Robust
The website contains syntax errors.
Media
Some recorded audio or video content does not have subtitles.
A few images do not have meaningful alternative text.
Some PDF documents on the site are not PDF/UA-compliant.
