Details

This Seminar examines issues involved in, and examples of, artistic engagements with archives and collections. It will draw on debates within the anthropology of art and related fields to consider the potential of artistic approaches to bring new perspectives to archives and collections. In particular, it will explore what might be meant by ‘artistic research‘ and how this can relate to contentious subject-matter or perspectives and provenance. The Seminar will involve consideration of actual archives and collections, including some of the collections of the Humboldt-Universität. As well as reading, participation in the Seminar will require developing ideas for artistic research with particular archives or collections. The main language of the Seminar is English but inputs and MAPS in German are welcome.
