The Sex of the Planets: A Week’s Progress
MPIWG Artist-in-Residence Tomás Cohen will share his work in progress through a performative lecture with music.
This event is an opportunity to be informed about the progress of Tomás Cohen’s artistic research and how it has been facilitated through consultation with scholars at the MPIWG, in particular Dept. AAK researchers on topics such as astral magic and horoscopy. The artist will give a detailed account of his creative use of the Institute’s resources, especially the Library and the VoH Image Database as complements to his writing process. Cohen will speak about a book of poetry related to planetary magic in the form of a week-book that he has written during the residency. Through a performance of musical arrangements of previous poems by Cohen (which he will sing together with musician and actor Salvador Burrell) the event is a taste of an upcoming performative presentation of the artistic production of his residency scheduled for 2026. This larger open event will constellate painting, drawing, collage, and poetry in the manner of a contemporary artistic cosmography and be rounded off with a musical concert staged as a modern astral magic ritual.
